“…Burton’s architecture had the “gentlemanly reticence said to have been his most noticeable characteristic, soundly built and thoughtfully planned”. This is not the warmest of accolades, but Burton was a prolific designer of significant structures, both public and private. He certainly deserved to have a monograph, and Rabbitts’s is thorough and well illustrated.
