Cornwallis by Richard Middleton reviewed in The Times

General Charles Cornwallis was a prominent imperialist who served in America, India and Ireland. Yet despite his involvement in the great upheavals of the late 18th century, only one previous biography has been written, published more than 40 years ago. Richard Middleton, his present biographer, finds that rather strange. I do not. The British Empire produced hundreds of fascinating characters, but Cornwallis was not one of them.
